Sub4 Heads

Recommended Posts

I ran across these 4-port heads while looking for a set of replacement heads for my 81. They look REALLY interesting, but I've not seen anyone here using them. Any thoughts on the matter?

I just can't imagine that I'm the first one to run across these and I don't believe for an instant that anybody here would voluntarily pass up a set of heads desigend from the ground up with performance in mind.

You aren't the first person to run across this!:) There are really no downsides to these heads (They are designed to flow at high engine speeds, airplanes you know) except for the price. Just hovering above $2000 for a set of HEADS ONLY!:slobber: I plan on doing this when I graduate from college, if I have enough money then!

We have seen them many, many times, but the price is simply too high. At about $2000 a set, not including carbs, manifolds or anything else. You really need the whole package anyway - a whole engine with all the aircraft parts working in conjunction. But that's like $10,000 for a complete drop in engine.

Complete engines, ready to rock and roll, and a complete price list, to boot.

I was looking at the dyno printout from sub4's website, and some of the numbers in there were just amazing to me. That little engine threw a peak torque of over 270ft-lbs and 125 horsepower. Frankly, I've seen full-size trucks with lower torque peaks than that. Granted they were giant hunks of crap...

Then I went to their distributors page and found that place called Ram Performance. They've got an engine based on the Sub4 heads that is advertised at 140hp.

How hard would it be to get ~140hp out of stock heads?

Hahahaha, I think we've all seen that list. SUB4 heads (Dual intake and exhaust ports) are $2000+ per set and Ram Performance or some other company sells duel intake/single exhaust port heads for $1500. I got a bunch of prices on this when I thought they were cheaper.

So maybe I SHOULD just stick with trying to stuff a powerstroke into the 81? :headbang:

just kidding, guys

Meh, use a Cummins.. I'd rather be Cummin than Strokin :-) sorry couldn't; resist. That rangers gotta be a beast, Got any pics? PM me..

When I checked, the SUB4 heads were 1500, the manifolds and carbs were $750 but that was a year or so ago. The problem is, is those kit airplane people have money coming out their ears and the people that sell those parts know it! lol...
