Wheel retrofitting

I have a 1998 Outback and want to upgrade the wheels, my question is will 2009 Outback wheels 17x7 with a 55mm offset work on this car, I'm just not sure what offsets will or won't work, I know the bolt pattern is right. Thanks for looking.

Scooner the car looks nice, kinda the same look I'm going for. I've only owned my Subaru for little more than a year now but was so impressed with my 98 last winter, I bought my wife a new one. I'm now in the process of rebuilding my suspension with new struts and Whiteline sway bars front and rear...what a difference. Now I'm thinking with newer tire and wheel combo I'll have a pretty nice handling commuter. Thanks for your input.

No problem! The way i solved the riddle of what size/fit worked i brought my car with those new rims to the tire shop and we literally went through a couple different sizes till we found one that worked. I also took the original size tire and put it into a tire calculator like the one on discount tires website and started to plug in numbers with the new size that were roughly the same circumference of the original so the speedometer wasnt off.
