IdiotSavant Posted October 23, 2014 Share Posted October 23, 2014 (edited) Hey guys, I'm trying to gather the parts required to do a fuel filler pipe replacement on my 99 Legacy GT sedan. After scouring the internet and this forum for hours trying to find a clear answer, there seems to be a lot of confusion between the parts required for the 97,98 and 99 models, wagons, sedans and SUS. I want to be sure because I'm in Canada and ordering from the US. I wouldn't want to be stuck paying ridiculously high shipping fees to return parts due to fitment issues. Pretty sure I'm going to order from subarugeniuneparts, but if there's another one-stop-shop where I can order all the required parts, please share. Looking at their parts diagram(attached), I think I'm going to need: 1 x #8, Filler Pipe 2 x #9 Ring 1 x #10 Gasket 1 x #15 Filler Valve #2 1 x #17 Rollover Valve In addition to this, I read that I'm going to need: 3 x mounting screws Part #047105166 1 x Valve Assembly Part #42084FA100 2 x Nuts Part # 023705000 Does this seems correct? Also if anyone has any good resources to find Subaru part numbers, please share. Subarugenuineparts website is very confusing when it comes to searching by vehicle or part number. Just pick rust free areas. The car is my daily driver so I can't really wait too long. I've never had good experiences using car-part.com. Every time I call a salvage yard to inquire about the part I want, the people answering always seem clueless and/or half drunk. I'm going to stick to an online vendor. Rooster2 Posted October 24, 2014 Share Posted October 24, 2014 Yea, I recently ran into the same confusion on what fill pipe to buy. I have a 99 OBW that recently needed the fill pipe replaced. I ordered on line from a parts house, but received the wrong part, even though it was suppose to be the correct part to fit the 2.5 motor on a 99 model. The only other choice left was to buy a fill pipe designed to work with the 2.2 motor, even though I have the 2.5 motor, which I did. Well, I gambled, and bought the 2.2 unit, and it was the correct one. BTW, I kept the wrong pipe, and installed it into my 98 OBW, it fit perfectly. Why Subie has two different style fill pipes is confusing. Suggest you go on line to look at parts store websites. I think I bought Dorman brand fill pipes. Enlarge sketch pictures of each of the two model fill pipes, and print out both sketches. Then pull off your road wheel, compare the sketch pictures to the unit that is on your car. One unit has a several rubber hoses attached, the other one has fewer hoses. Visually, it will be obvious which fill pipe you need to order. Also, there is a protective plastic enclosure around the fill pipe. It is suppose to protect the fill pipe, but does little more then get packed with road grime and moisture to create rust holes in the fill pipe over time. That is what it did on my car. On replacing my fill pipe, I did not install the plastic enclosure. I just threw it away. BTW, I may still have the receipts on both of the fill pipes, which would list the model stock number. I made a call to my local dealership this morning and ended up ordering the necessary parts directly from them. I was initially just looking to find out the correct part numbers, but was quoted $190 for everything I need, including valve assembly, filler pipe, gasket, ring and mounting screws. If there are fitment issues, I can just walk right over and exchange the parts instead of paying shipping. I was expecting minimum $400 ordering from the dealership, so it not too bad considering some US online vendors wanted $60-$80 just for shipping. To help other members with the repair, I'll update this with the correct part numbers on a 99 Legacy GT sedan once I can confirm that the parts ordered fit properly. Thanks again.
