Moog, Monroe or KYB? Loyale Shocks

Recommended Posts

I'm upgrading the suspension on my 92 Loyale wagon that is getting lifted 2". I am thinking of going with King Springs and need new shocks as well. Lordco sells Moog and Monroe and I often hear about KYBs on here. What are the pros/cons and what would mate best with some Kings?

I read up as much as possible and couldn't answer this question. Thanks.

Moog does not manufacture shocks and struts so they would be rebranded, most likely Monroe or Gabrielle. Personally I would use KYB on any vehicle, it's the brand we install on customer's vehicles all the time. Be careful there are many different product lines within each manufacturer so be sure you are comparing apples to apples.

I wasn't aware of moog making struts, but I have never had any problems with KYB.

Edit: swootton beat me to it..

Should mention also, if I have a choice it's either oemor moog before other brands for hard parts (ball joints, tie rod ends, arms, bushings, etc).

KYB makes a decent stock replacement strut; albeit they have a slightly firmer than normal ride feel compared to an OEM. Sachs also makes a strut for this car, their Super Touring line, but I've no idea how they are.

As a side note, the EA81 4WD models had adjustable suspension through dials and adjustment bolts. It's only about an inch (0.59" per setting), but it would allow you to freely choose as opposed to being stuck on one setting. Might be worth it if you can track the parts down.

So now I am looking at trying to save a few bucks and prioritize my suspension buy. The rear struts sound gone. I also need something stiffer back there. The fronts could be stiffer and 'damper' (smoother feeling going over round curbs). I believe the struts are good. I guess the question is about the front. Would it be worth doing just some new king springs with out new struts? Would just new struts stiffen up my ride much?

I am liking what people are saying about KYB, it seems to be the way to go. Now I need to find them in Canada.
Thanks for the help guys. I went back into Lordco and it was actually Monroe that they had.

When I installed kybs on my gl front suspension it stiffened up my suspension alot. But they were the original adjustable strutts and they were adjusted all the way down and the kybs are welded at max height . I would go ahead and replace the springs if they look really rusty, I've seen more than a fair share of snapped springs in subarus. Of course we use salt on the roads up here that could be part of it
