Hi, new to this site but I have looked for answers to my problem here and sort of found an answer but not really sure.I have a 1996 legacy postal 2.2 and it has no spark on just the number one plug this was confirmed by jumping the wire to ground is it possible that the ignitor is bad or would it be the spark sensor on the crank or could it be that part of the coil? Thanks Wayne.

If your ignitor, crank angle sensor or cam angle sensor were faulty there would be little chance of your car starting.

you have a 4 pack coil on top of your inlet manifold, this system uses the wasted spark system, 2 coils firing at once.

I would check the resistance of your wires especially number one wire. you might try swapping the lead with another on the engine to see if the wire is faulty.

Look for damage to the primary wires to the coil before you replace it, but in all likelihood, it will be the coil itself.

Look at the coil at night in the dark.  Often the problem with a coil is that the housing cracks and the coil arcs to the nearest ground.  It is a lot more visible at night.
