bhamsubi Posted March 10, 2015 Share Posted March 10, 2015 Hi I have a 91 non turbo subrau lagcey. Its problem is that its not shifting untill high rpms. Between 3000 an 4000 and its only is first. Also it revs super high on hills. I have to get a goo runnin start to get up. Or it bogs down an then runs really high rpms just to get up. This is my first car an im not sure what to do. Have you checked the fluid levels and condition (PS coolant ATF oil ) what happens when you shift manually DO you have any check lights on on the dash? ccrinc Posted March 13, 2015 Share Posted March 13, 2015 One of the shift solenoids or pressure control balls which are part of the valve body is either bad or really dirty. (I've seen that job and I don't want it.) If it was my car, the first thing I would try is to drain all the ATF, refill using at least 1 qt. of Rislone, run it about 50 miles, drain and refill with new ATF. If gunk has built up in there (and after all this time, the chances it hasn't are slim), this should help clean it out. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Fairtax4me Posted March 13, 2015 Share Posted March 13, 2015 Transmission won't make it bog down. That sounds like an engine problem causing erratic shifting. If you have to use more throttle to keep the car moving the trans will hold gears longer because it thinks you're still trying to accelerate. How old are the spark plugs and wires? Air and fuel filters? PCV valve? Any broken or loose vacuum hoses? Are all of the large breather and PCV hoses properly attached to the intake tube? Is the engine not running properly at that time, or is it just not wanting to "go"? Also, in looking at the OP again, I see you said in "first" only.
