Early Rider Steve Posted March 18, 2015 Share Posted March 18, 2015 Hi All, Will the turbo off an EA-82 turbo engine bolt on a EA-81 turbo engine? Or are they different. I think that my turbo isn't working and I have a complete EA-82 turbo engine in my donor car, but don't want to pull it if they won't interchange as the engine is complete. I think I had to egg out a mounting hole on the downpipe, You will probably want to hook up the coolant lines.If not,the turbo will be strictly oil cooled like the original 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Steves car is kinda low mileage one owner kinda thing. Its possible his was never replaced. But this all started with a blown coolant hose right? Turbone Posted March 19, 2015 Share Posted March 19, 2015 Swap the header with a EA82T one, same with the down pipe. There was a TSB recall for the dealerships to retrofit the coolant lines. Early Rider Steve Posted March 20, 2015 Author Share Posted March 20, 2015 Thank You All for the responses, Yes my wagon was upgraded to the water cooled turbo. ihscout54 is right, on one of my test drives the hose from the thermostat housing to the turbo broke and I lost a lot of coolant . Now looking at things I think the turbo might be toast, and the start of my power problems. Really don't think that the engine needs a rebuild, just a turbo .
