How to Adjust High Idle

Ok so I am very annoyed by my high idle. Every since I rebuilt my carb my car idles at 2000 rpms before it warms up. (i dont think it even worked before I rebuilt my carb.) This is hard on my engine, not fuel efficient, and just plain annoying. I looked in my HAYNES repair manual and it says that there is this one screw which adjusts the high idle mounted on the carb. Well I adjusted that screw and every time I adjust it, the next morning it is idling at 2000 again! Could someone give me some advice? 

BTW; my car is an EA81 w/ hitachi carb

check for vacuum leaks, also check the ipc valve, well i think thats what its called, anyways its the idler valve, you didn't specify if its always high revs even when its already warmed up or stops when its warmed up, im going to assume it still does it when its warmed up, theres a small gasket on that idler valve (note the idler screw and idler valve are compleately different things) did you replace all the seals and small gaskets on everything you took apart?

here is a picture of the EA82 idler valve, im not sure if the EA81 is the same, im just trying to help and doing my best, sorry if im compleately incorrect and correcting me would allow me to learn more about these EA81s. thanks.

That's not for a carved setup at all.

 

Sapper, the high idle screw is on the back Side of the linkage, inner part of the linkage piece.

 

2000 is kinda normal for cold high idle though if it doesn't come down quickly you may want to check the heating coil inside the choke hosing is intact, and getting power and warming.

 

If all else fails, file the locating notch off the choke housing and rotate it counter clockwise.

thanks gloyale, didnt know that the IPC or EGR valve was strictly for fuel injected, then again would make sence, sorry! Edited by Subasaurus

i put a weber on a 76 celica with a water choke and the damn thing would take forever to idle down. just stook a while fore the choke to open once the water warmed up. i thought that was normal for carbd cars to do. although it must be annoying. im not too familiar with suby carbs. i like FI. but maybe youre choke is sticing or something. definatley double check for vac leaks. sorry i couldn't help more.
