i have a set of rear struts that are supposed to fix this - i got them from someone else but never used them.  i think they're like 2002 WRX rear struts, but they have no springs or tophats.

I'm not sure if you can just install your current springs/top hats on them....or.....?  i'm not very familiar with suspension swap stuff.

well, I have a set of stock springs off my 06 WRX wagon, less than 1800 miles of use.  You pay shipping plus $25 and you can see if they will work for you.

I could take some free-length measurements but, i also don't know if you can use them. There's an entire thread at NASIOC about what suspension will work on other cars.

I'm looking to replace my struts/springs in my GF8 and have found a number of helpful threads on topic. I was split between forester struts, then WRX (found some locally), but now I think I'll go with KYB RS-spec oem style struts to forgo the hassle of tophats/springs.

FYI, '89-'91 Legacy rear springs and top hats will work with WRX struts and bolt up to your car, but that's extra cash, time, and I guess the work isn;t very complicated to do.

Hi everyone! I have a 1996 impreza L with the same prob. Mine gets extremely hard mountain use all year. We snowmobile home in the winter so just getting to the sleds can be a chore sometimes. Hauling supplies and ourselves in and out takes its toll. We're about 30 miles from Gunnison towards monarch pass. I had 16 flat tires last summer so you can imagine. I carry 2 extra spares on this car with multiple flats happening at the same time. It's interesting at times. It's not often but it does happen. Although it seems like work for a truck I can't imagine a better workhorse for the job and after 7 years still ticking along. The awd is amazing, turns on a dime and runs and starts everyday and hasn't let me down yet.

I've replaced all the struts already once about 3 or 4 years ago but my saggy springs won't hold the car up so the struts are blown. I need to replace it all. Would an outback setup bolt on similar to the forester struts? I need stiffer than what I have and an inch higher than stock would be nice. I want it to go on easy without having to change out a bunch of parts so I thought the forester setup might be too much for me. Changing tophats or drilling wouldn't be an issue. I can do all that type of work I just need this car up and running asap so I need to have what I need. The actual lift isn't as important to me as just upgrading the entire system. An inch of lift won't help in chest deep snow, but outback suspension might hold up a lot better and allow me to carry a load better? Thanks!

Hello and welcome. You probably should gave started your own thread since this one is rather old and you have different questions than the topic. This site is actually really good with people responding, so don't be fearful of starting a new thread thinking no one will answer.

Anyways, if the rear is sagging, that's a strut issue or too much weight in the rear. I think the Outback struts might be what you want or rather the strut assembly. If it were me doing it, I'd get the assembly and buy new, higher quality struts and maybe consider aftermarket springs with with a higher spring rate in the rear if you plan on having a bunch of weight back there or plan on towing as that will hold ride height better. My rear is lower from lots of weight in the back, so I just bought those rubber blocks that wedge between the coils. Works great on Legacy springs and restored about an 1.5" of height.
