Changing seats in Subaru Outback

Recommended Posts

My driver's seat springs have collapsed, support is negligible.  So I'm thinking of switching the seats, passenger to driver's side.  Is this an easy job?  How often is this done?  I see two bolts holding in the seats.

No, they are not interchangeable. The seat belt buckle would be on the wrong side, and I don't think the bolt hole pattern is the same. In the past I have gone to a wrecking yard, bought a passenger seat, and switched the padding to the driver's seat. That is not difficult to do. There really isn't much in the way of springs to deteriorate. It is the foam padding that breaks down. I use cable ties to secure the seat, instead of the hog rings used by the factor.

As noted, drivers and passenger are not interchangeable.... Post your YEAR and we can suggest replacements.

But ANY Legacy model (L, LS, LSi, GT, OB) from '90-99 will bolt up to a '96-'99 Legacy OB. Also, Impreza and Forester 'thru 2007/8 will work in '90-'99 Legacy OB, but the seat sits higher...esp. the passenger.

Swap your buckles to the 'new' seats.

I 'think' you can also use the '00-'05 Legacy/Outback in the '90-'99 Legacy, but haven't confirmed that. I know the '05+ Legacy/Outback models won't fit '90-'99.
