neutral saftey switch

Recommended Posts

Manual trans do not have a Nuetral "safety" switch.

There is a switch, on ether left side of trans, that tells the ECU when the car is in a gear, or in Nuetral.

However this has nothing to do with starting the car and is not a "safety" feature. It is merely to help the ECU control idle and fuel cut during off throttle coasting.

Well lets not be so pickey about names :P

An automatic in a subaru has an "inhibitor" switch. This tells the car what gear it is in

Manuals will have a clutch switch of some kind, and sometimes a neutral safety switch on the transmission. More modern manuals may even have some sort of switches to tell the computer what gear you selected.

Someone may have bypassed your clutch switch. Not uncommon.
