EJ18 Value?

Recommended Posts

I'd like to eventually do an EJ swap on my BRAT. For now, the EA81 runs like a champ with no leaks, smoke, or issues of any sort. But eventually, I'd like to get a little bit more power and a little bit less carburetor.

There is an EJ18 available locally. Seller says it has 27k miles. It is out of a 96 impreza. So what's it worth? If I can get it for a fair price, I'll just buy it and hang on to it until I'm ready to swap.

Or should I hold out for a 2.2 that I pull from a car with verifiable miles and a wiring harness?

They're not common but not hard to find cheap when you do find them.  Might pay premium for a low mileage version. Compare prices on www.car-part.com, that's where I got mine.

Are you wanting a low mileage one?

The 100,000 mile EJ18 I bought from All Foreign in Pittsburgh was $150 a few years ago. It's at 230,000 now.

I'd keep it context with what other motors are going for. Around here, ej22s from junkyards go for around 4-500bucks. And that comes with somekind of warranty. But I was able to find an ej18 on craigslist for half that. So I took it even thought its less power because it was relatively allot cheaper. In otherwards, if the price of an ej18 is approaching what an ej22 goes for, its too much. because for the most part, the ej22 is more universal and moer power.

i'd be more spendy on some engines based on mileage and how long since they've been driven, but EJ18 or EJ22 are down at the bottom of the list in that regard.

Im meeting the one friend I know that has an EJ18 or two tomorrow, though he lives like 7 hours away and i only see him once a year at most, i'll ask him the details if i remember.
