rayban1 Posted June 5, 2015 Share Posted June 5, 2015 Hi, been working on my 84 Brat. I have two issues. The ignition key cylinder get stuck and when I try to start it takes a few tries of turning the key cylinder and holding to get it to work, do I need to replace the whole cylinder or is there a switch? My oil pressure guage rises when I turn ignition on peggs out at top but then falls down and does not register, switch out oil sending unit and does same, car runs fine , think there might be a wire bad ground any ideas where to start, , thanks Ray in Seattle Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ihscout54 Posted June 5, 2015 Share Posted June 5, 2015 The ignition switch itself is seperate from the tumbler and is attatched too it on the other side of the column. Did you use a new sender for cars equiped with a gauge? Its larger than the small switch for cars with a light. What you describe ssounds a little like you might be using a switch for cars with an oil light. If the wire feeding the gauge has grounded out for some time it has likely ruined the gauge. When you turn the key on engine off that gauge should not move. If it is (and u are using the correct sender) its getting ground from somewhere it shouldnt be. Unhook the wire and pull it out away from the engine and turn the key on. If the problem is still there then its the gauge or a problem deeper in the harness. rayban1 Posted June 5, 2015 Author Share Posted June 5, 2015 The oil sending unit attaches to the block, I ordered a unit for a guage not light and it was to big of threads, only the sending unit for light fits on the block,I remember my 86 brat sending unit used the guage one, do you remember if it mounts to the block or oil pump? jono Posted June 5, 2015 Share Posted June 5, 2015 my latst oil pressure gauge for EA81, the sender came with an earthing terminal as well as the to gauge terminal to ensure good earthing for any application I suppose.. I think I also got same function as you with a gauge due to the poorly marked back case - I hooked up wires incorrectly. I think a T looked like the earth symbol ??
