Another Ignition Relay Question

Recommended Posts

I know this has been done about 1000 times but I can't seem to find any other specific relays other than the Bosch WR1 for the starter problem I'm having.

I'm looking to add a starter or ignition relay to my 93 Loyale and just want to spend $10, I'd pony up $25 for the bosch kit but the issue is I need to pick it up from a store and not ship it as I'm visiting the states (from Canada) and moving around lots.

Does anyone have a specific one that will work that's around $10?

This one is in my ballpark but has 6 posts instead of 4 I see most posting. Anyone have an idea how it works? Haven't been able to understand the diagrams I've seen.

I suppose im unaware of the conversion your attempting, but that 30a lighting relay should be acceptable for engaging a starter solenoid. Another thought for you is Radioshack. Its been 5+ years since ive bought from them but they used to have the bosch 4/5 pin types in their bins 40a and even 60a and they were like 6-7 bux. I hear that radioshacks are no longer on every corner now, tho.

I figured out why you were doing it. I was unaware if it being a common mod. From the tone of your post it has been well documented? If the contacts in the switch are pretty flakey it may not be reliable even to trigger a relay. If it works its cheaper than an ign switch and youll probably never have to worry about that part of the switch again.

Check radioshack the quality of their relays was better than the cheapy parts stores. Good luck.

This is a very common mod almost every "old" subaru could benefit with this being done.

I did a search on google, as I didn't bookmark the page in my subaru bookmarks

the USMB thread is actually in the Ausubaru one as well :)

As for Relays you can source  cheap relays from anywhere on ebay for around 10 - 20 Au dollars (way less in Us dollars)

as long as they are 4 or 5 post and 20-30 amps they will work.
