How crucial is the black rubber "helper-rear" for a FWD loyal suspension

Recommended Posts

I replaced the rear strut on my Loyale and the black cone shaped rubber "helper-rear" that seams to buffer the suspension broke off. The drives fine, although its a bit noisier. Is this piece crucial, will the car be okay without dropping $60 + shipping and having to drill the old one out?

See item 24 on attached image. '

Thanks for your help!

unless you're a highway driver 24/7 like a semi, i would replace it, i know we all avoid potholes but everyonce in a while you're distracted or theres a car next to you and behind you and you can't do anything about it then running it over and then who knows what happenes without that rubber piece.

Not all Subaru's had the "Bump-Stop".

So, no,, it's not a super critical got to have it component.

I know the Wagons have them, not sure just what other body styles have them.

They are there to help the suspension from "totally bottoming out" when caring a load in the back. That's it.

Just a bit more cushion is all when the loaded vehicle encounters rough road conditions. Not a good thing to be bottoming out the shocks a lot.

Continuously hitting the bump-stops will destroy them though.

Thank you all for your input on the bump stops. It fell off the day before I sold the car and I have been debating buying a new one, meeting up with them and installing it. but if it's not crucial I will probably just let it ride. There is a bump stop in the strut that I replaced now that I thin of it!
