1993 Liberty EJ22 MAF Sensor Issues

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I drive a 93' liberty, to which the engine light comes on and stays on when key is turned to ignition (usually turns off after a few seconds) and sometimes comes on when i'm driving along.

I have lost performance, fuel efficiency, car stalls at the light and sometimes takes a few times to start.

So i have run a self diagnostic test off all electrical circuits for integrity and what not via the two cannon plugs under the dash on the drivers side which gives me 2 slow flashes and 3 quick flashes (of the engine check light) indicating that the MAF has an error...i've taken the MAF out of the car and cleaned it with the correct cleaners and what not being careful not to distort the sensor elements within the MAF.

...Still i have the same issue as before.

I have even taken the MAF apart and give the contacts a clean and made sure there is no resistance between the cannon plug pins and the MAF board.

Each time I have tried something new in order to fix this fault I have reset the ECU. Still no good!

I would much prefer to buy a brand new MAF but I can't justify spending $450 on one.

Any information or help on this topic would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

If there's an electrical fault with the MAF it's usually a poor solder joint between the connector pins and the board.

Any other problems will be due to failed components on the PCB, which are difficult or impossible to identify and repair.

Like Gary said, a used MAF is a good option since they don't fail that often.
