GL10T Wagon Vs. XT6?

Recommended Posts

Ok guys what would you do? This is the recently wrecked XT Turbo owner talking. GL10T wagon runs but lifters clattering 3 spd. auto trans is Non-turbo. Swap engine and trans from wrecked XT...........or XT6 needs power-steering pump and rims. I am just having a really hard time trying to decide on which one to go for? I love the sliding sun/moon-roof in the wagon, but I love the look of the XT 6. I think both are 89 models. Hubby has already bought them both.....ARGGGGGH. Money is tight, time is not but I have to decide which way to go? I am interested in hearing any opinions either way. OR............many of you guys have more than ONE horse in the stable..............maybe I should ask him NICELY to fix both! ;)

What do you mean by "needs power steering pump"?

If the light is on but the pump is not leaking, its just brushes. Brushes are 40 bucks (give or take a few), disconnect the wires to the pump, tilt it so fluid doesnt leak out, pop the motor off and replace the brushes. If the pump leaks its just the o-ring to the front cap. I think there is some japanese guy's website somewhere that shows you how to tear the thing apart (I haven't done it, just the brush replacement).

As for the rims, you can get rims for $75 bucks each at oemwheels.com. The original nice looking alloy ones. Or at least, that was the price a couple of years ago.

All of that is WAY easier than swapping engines and trannies...but that's just my opinion. Good luck with that. My 89 xt6 is still running around just fine.

Swapping the engine/tranny into the wagon sounds like a good idea. And just fix the XT6. That way you have 2 rigs to drive :brow: But I am a little confused, you said the wagon is a GL10T. That means its a turbo. If not, you will have a real headache converting it to a turbo.

Yeah Turbone, the wagon is Turbo, but someone changed tranny Wrong (not turbo). Doesn't have proper lines somewhere and makes shifting (auto) strange. Have to release gas pedal to force shift to next gear. From the XT Turbo, engine and trans is proper. What is benefit to change to XT6 Lugs?

Ok, Backing up here. Calebz, (hate to sound dumb here) what is FT4wd? I get the 4 wheel drive. But the only 4wd is the wrecked XT turbo! The XT6 is Automatic 2wd. I have to admit I miss the manual Transmission. The first XT I owned was a 5-speed. That was a fun little car to drive. Ever since I have had automatics.

FT4WD is Full Time 4WD. Some of the XT6s had a FT4WD 5 speed with a locking center diff and rear 3.90 LSD... Basically its early All Wheel Drive. I said this in hopes thats what you had.

I have the GL-10 FT4WD With locking center diff and rear 3.70 LSD.. almost as cool as the XT6 3.90:lol:

Based on everything you have described, fix the XT6, transplant the stuff from the wrecked XT into the wagon and enjoy both cars.
