SCROLL DOWN FOR INFO ON RESCHEDULING

Hey guys, I thought I'd put out the word on this.

On the 14th Tin Soldier and I are going to the mother of all junkyards to pull a trans. I thought since so many of you like junkyards and good deals, I'd pass the invitation along to anyone who would like to come. We've already pestered Skip about going, no word yet.

Any and all Soob lovers in the area, come on out! I've gone to the yards with my Nissan buddies before, and we've always had a GREAT time.

We'd probably be meeting up at around 8 or 8:30 in the morning. I guess we could meet somewhere in Perryopolis, PA, which is close to I-70 and about 5 miles from the yard.

This yard is pretty rough territory, be like a Boy Scout and come prepared! Bring boots, lots of drinking water, hand cleaner and rags, backpacks for carrying tools/parts, etc. This place is very rural and has NO RUNNING WATER, and is completely mud or dirt depending on the weather. Some areas are also heavily covered with wees and grass. Definitely wear jeans and boots. DO NOT BRING A HEAVY TOOLBOX- walking around this yard is equivalent to a hike of several miles. I'd suggest using a backpack.

Now some info about the yard.... it's well over 300 acres, has cars of all makes and models, and about 35-50 Soobs, mostly EA82's. There are 2 70's wagons with pretty nasty bodies, a few EA81 wagons and a couple hatchbacks, also a hardtop with an incomplete EA81T. There are also several XT's. This place has tons and tons and tons of EA82 parts- however turbo parts are in short supply, there's 2 or 3 *incomplete* EA82T's in the place. NO RX's. Several first gen Legacies as well, and a few Justys too.

Skip, do you mind if I send any of my Merkur Club buddies along for the ride? Depending on the yard organization, Merkurs got stuck in either the Ford or Foreign section. We've got a few members out Pittsburgh way.

Far as I can tell this place is VERY scarce on Merkur parts. I've only seen one in the yard before, with no engine.

Pretty typical really. Of all the times I've been to Harry's in Hazleton, which claims to be the largest U-Pull-It in the world, I can think of a total of only 3 Merkurs I've ever found there in the last five years.

Not sure if you walk the Ford section at this yard at all, but what about 2.3 Turbo Fords, as found in T-Bird Turbo Coupes and Mustang SVO's (considerably more rare)?

If you look under the hood of my XR4, you'll find parts from Volvo, Saab, Subaru, and Nissan turbo motors., so lots of "foreign" cars can be donors.

Not sure about 2.3 turbo Fords. You're welcome to come along and have a look, but I really don't know if you'l find anything interesting.

Looks like we're going to have to reschedule this guys. They're calling for a 50% chance of thunderstorms.

So... any ideas when we could go?

Well... the next weekend I'll have free is July 5-6. Got a wedding to go to next week and of course the week after that is Paul's garage cleaning party.

If everyone is up for it we could make a 2-day weekend out of it, and hit one of the big yards each day.

Since the meet got rained out, we need to reschedule. I was thinking we could go for the weekend of July 5/6, either day would work.

A couple guys have told me they might be able to make it. I haven't gotten any definite answers. If nobody can make it that weekend, we'll shoot for another day.

So, who is in or out?

I may be up for this if its still going on. Please keep us informed. Also, how is the Nissan supply there (specificaly SR20DE and S13 cars)?

As for the date Noah- that's up to everybody. We'll go on the day that the most people can make it.

Matt... they only have one car that HAD an SR20DE, a 93 SE-R. It's been stripped bare. Really the only thing left besides body parts is the master cylinder and rear brakes, which I plan to take for my B13.

They only have one S13, a '90 fastback. It's also been stripped to the bone.

Update: I can't make it July 5-6th. I'm driving out to Lancaster to install the NX brake upgrade on my former turbo SE-R for its new owner and hitting another one of my SE-R buddies BBQ in NYC. I would really like to meet up with you Sooby guys sometime though so if it is delayed or you have another one please let me know. I'm picking up my first one ever tomorrow an 88 4wd turbo wagon :) Steve: What kind of B13 do you have?

Guest OH Noah

July 6th is just about the only time I can do this. I think my friend and I will be going that day regardless, as we have exhausted the local yards and are interested in fresh meat. We'll probably be driving my wagon with the CIS fuel injection conversion in case that interests anyone.

I'd love to see some of you guys there, but if not then maybe some other time.

Looks like we've got the 6th for Noah, SilverShadow, and Skip. Any objections for going on the 6th?

Looks like that'll be the day........

If anyone needs to grab any engines/trannies/other undercarriage parts out of a car, PLEASE let me know in advance!

Guest OH Noah

I was kinda hoping to get the front crossmember from that EA81T you mentioned. That's the largest thing I was thinking of grabbing.

Where are we meeting, and when?? With my 3hr drive, I probably can't get there before 11:00, so maybe I should just meet you guys at the yard? I'll also look into getting an earlier start.

Sweet, it looks like I can make it on the 6th afterall. I think I may have a problem with my new wagon. When I changed the oil it was *really* thin and there was a lot of it :( I'm thinking head gasket. Maybe you guys can take a look Sunday and give me some advice. Where are you planning to meet and what time? I'm coming from Pittsburgh.

I was hoping to meet in Perryopolis around 8 or so, since the yard opens at 9 and I want to give everyone time to show up. I had written details about it in the first post on this thread.

We'll meet at the CrossRoads station right off I-70. It's a big blue and yellow gas station with X's all over it, it's bright and gaudy, very hard to miss. It's on the interchange of I-70 and Rt. 51, Exit 46. I actually forgot which side of the highway it's on, I think it's the SOUTH exit, but I'm not 100% sure. Hopefully the Gas/Food/Lodging signs will point it out. If not, and you go the wrong way, just turn around and head in there, Rt. 51 usually isn't too busy.

Noah- I can give you directions how to get to the yard itself- it's very remote and can be a confusing drive to get there. But if you follow my directions to the letter, you can find it. I guess I'll just email them to you.

Once again I'd like to go over what stuff you'll NEED to bring.

-PANTS (NOT shorts)

-BOOTS

-WATER!!!

-Rags and hand cleaner

-Sheet/blanket to lay on when crawling under cars

-A bag (backpack is best) to carry tools and parts in

This place is basically a desert, so prepare accordingly. They have no running water, so bring your own. To get to the Soob's we'll have to walk at least half a mile, so I'd suggest not carrying anything heavy in your hands. Jacks are NOT ALLOWED, so if you want to jack up a car, you'll either have to find an emergency jack, or if he's working, get the forklift driver to pick it up for you.

If anybody plans to get anything from underneath a car PLEASE let me know in advance so I can have the car raised up before we get there!!

Rear plastic trim from around the rear hatch.Lift the inner edge out and slid the piece rearward for best results.

Blue floormats if really nice.If you don't want to carry all this forget the floor mats, the rest is light.

THANKS

Have fun.Got yout tick repelent?
