Hey all,

Just wondering what the possibilities are regarding swapping an 09 xt forester 2.5l turbo into say an older ( **** - 2008) forester, liberty, outback, wrx etc? any quid pro quos or pitfalls that would make it overly difficult?

if it includes the trans - final drive ratio of rear diff must match.

probably move the ECU over and need to marry/merge some wiring.

not trivial - but almost any swap you can think of has been done by someone somewhere. www.nasioc.com would be another good source for info. probably www.subaruforester.com worth a look too.

The 09 has the transponder key immobilizer. That HAS to stay in the circuit or it will never start. A lot of people have avoided 2005+ swaps for that reason. Not that it cant be done, it just adds a degree of difficulty. I think miles fox, or numbchux may have better info than i do tho.

Edit: I misread. Into an 05+ should be doable. Possibly plug and play if past practice is any indication. Swap motor, and ecu together. But get both wiring schematics, and compare to be certain.

The trans will come with it if the swap goes ahead, duly noted about the rear diff + final drive ratios. Thank you for the links guys I will have to look over those websites and see what I can find! Yeah the mechanics (although Toyota techs) I've spoken to said their main concern would be the merging/transferal of the wiring, would it be easier to completely replace the acceptor wiring with donor wiring or only merge the essentials? although I feel like having to comb through to see what can and cant be left would be a harder task). Thanks again for the info!
