my subaru

i have a 1999 subaru legacy with a 2.2l engine. i am in the process of replacing the engine and i put a '95 block with the newer 99 heads and intake. i swapped over the crank and cam gears to work with the 99 computer. for some reason its throwing a crank sensor malfunction code (P0336). it idols rough and has no acceleration. i adjusted the timing to make it retarded 1 tooth and it helped with the idoling but still no change in acceleration. when i hit the throttle it bogs down and almost stalls. does anyone have any tips for me or have any of you come to this problem before? i could use all the input as possible. thank you

First thing is to put the timing back where it belongs, and check to make sure you actually have it correct. Sounds to me like it's off.

Check the resistance of the crank sensor. It's the same sensor as the cam sensor, so they should be ballpark the same. If it's way off the sensor might be going bad.

i tried checking the sensors and putting timing back. i also replaced the crank sensor with a brand new sensor. nothing seems to be working except making the timing 1 tooth retarded. the older crank pully was offset 1 tooth from the key hole which is why i made the timing one tooth retarded. seems like i should try 2 teeth. i know theres good compression because the 95 enging was running like a top before however the wiring harnesses and computer didnt match up
