Ea71 air injection delete

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I'm new to the old(er) Subarus. I've got an 07 WRX that I'm building for road racing, and an 06 STi that I'm doing a custom project build on. Subie in question is a recently aquired 1979 Brat. I got a great (?) deal on, essentially traded parts off the STi for it.

Previous owner didn't have it long, maybe a month, but a trusted friend. I was told that it smoked pretty bad and just needed some head gaskets. Well both heads were cracked between ALL valves on ALL cylinders. I sourced a good set of heads for cheap so +1 there.

My question is, I can't get the air injection tubing off the old heads. Well, I can, but I feel like I'm probably going to tear them up doing so. How bad would it be if I just plugged the holes in the new heads? If it's not going to effect the overall performance (using the term lightly haha) what all needs to be dealt with when removing the air injection stuff?

Thanks in advance. I've been looking and can't find much of what I'm looking for.

Fwiw- I live in Oklahoma and emissions aren't an issues. Anything else to remove while I'm at it? I plan on completely rebuilding the EA71.

Wuh ? No such thing as 'air injection' on a EA71. It's more like suction ... :o

Do note that not all engines came with these manifolds, as it was to meet emissions stuff so can be deleted.

Have you got a workshop manual ? that would be your best first port of call ... ;)

Cheers, Bantum ...
