Outback 2.5 non turbo cranks but will not start

Recommended Posts

Howdy Subie fans.  I have recently acquired a 2006 Outback.  2.5 no turbo.  AWD.  The previous owner replaced a dead battery and reversed the polarity with the cables to the wrong connectors.  Positive to negative and vise versa.  At this point, I have found that the main 120 volt fuse for the main fuse panel was blown, and the TCM (Transmission Control Module) is burnt.  I replaced the fuse and the engine would then crank but not start.  Then I replaced (with a used part) the TCM.  Still no start.  I checked to find spark at teh coil but found none.  Fuel pump primes with ignition on.  All lights on dash come on with ignition on.  Unit will crank strong for a while but no start.   Side note.... the ECM looks brand new and smeels not burnt at all.

Where do I go from here?

Ignition coil has it's own 15A fuse on the relay block under the dash on the driver's side. Check those fuses, and check for power to them (although it gets power from the main relay, which is fairly safe to assume is good if the fuel pump is priming.
