Sapper 157 Posted June 6, 2016 Share Posted June 6, 2016 On my EA81, I am trying to remove the crankshaft pulley so I can get to the front main seal, but the stupid thing wont budge. Any ideas? I assumed all that one had to do was put a 22mm socket on the bolt and turn it with a breaker bar until it let go but every time I turn it, the pulley just turns with it and I cant get enough torque to break it loose. superooo Posted June 7, 2016 Share Posted June 7, 2016 Dont think you're supposed to put that much strain on your trans, i assume you'd do it same kinda way you bust the flywheel loose, fsm says jam a screwdriver in through the timing hole i think and wedge it so it doesn't spin, but im sure ill be corrected Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

jono Posted June 7, 2016 Share Posted June 7, 2016 i use a 450 or 600 [forget] breaker bar and jam it in the tie down / tow loop welded to the underside of the chassis with socket on pulley bolt, radiator removed just in case and disconnect coil , quick flick of starter and very quick off again usually does mine on 81 and 82 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

dfoyl Posted June 7, 2016 Share Posted June 7, 2016 Disconnect battery. Remove a spark plug. Feed some thin rope into cylinder head (about 2 foots worth). Fit 22mm socket on breaker bar Add extension to breaker bar Turn until rope is "crushed" between piston and cylinder head Turn a little more (add force as needed) Remove nut & pulley. robm Posted June 7, 2016 Share Posted June 7, 2016 Use top gear (4th or 5th), not 1st. Adjust the hand brake so it works properly and put it on all the way. If you have 4WD, use it, and get a friend to stand on the brake pedal instead of using the hand brake. I use a breaker bar and a piece of pipe to extend it. They come right off. golucky66 Posted June 7, 2016 Share Posted June 7, 2016 Unless it's really really stuck, the simplest option is to just put a break bar on it, pin it (in the right direction) and use the starter.
