Hello from Charleston, SC. Need advice on 4EAT replacement.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I've got a 2010 Subaru Forester with 4EAT (TZ1B8LCZAA) recently bought second-hand.

The car has 150k miles, was diagnosed with torque binding, had had the tranny flushed twice before I bought it. Front diff oil seems new, tranny fluid seems new, all the levels are close to OK. I tried the tight circles trick and the FWD/AWD fuse trick. The duty solenoid C seems ok, not sure about the clutch pack.

The tranny was diagnosed to be replaced. I was quoted $1700-2200 for the replacement at a local independent Subaru-only shop, although had read that it could be around $500 for a used tranny under 50k from a wrecked car and $300 for the labor.

Two days ago the tranny started to behave weirdly. It just doesn't engage. The engine starts normally, the tranny switches from P to D and to R, to SPORT, to N, to 1 or 2, sometimes the car drives than it gradually stops moving. After a while (half an hour or so, when it probably cools down) it can start and move again. No error codes whatsoever. I tried the self-diagnostic combination using low-beam and odometer and it showed P----, blinking P, C----.

1. Can anyone guess what it is?

2. Any suggestions of where in Charleston, SC can I get a tranny and any recommended shops to do that at a decent price.

Thanks.
