Need input on 2 junk yard engines ea82 carb vs spfi

Recommended Posts

There are 2 engines one is a carb 165lbs compression other is spfi 150 lbs compression the I know the spfi has a higher compression ratio but would the carb make more power anyway since it has more compression mine is carbed I'm swapping manifolds if I go with the spfi

I'm not sure I'm following you 100% on what you've said.

The higher compression reading will generally be the better engine.  The SPFI to me would be the better way to go for factory power, reliability and economy.  But it's not just an intake manifold swap.

You'll need the ECU, the wiring loom, intake manifold, other odds and ends for emission gear and probably the exhaust Y pipe, or at least a bung added to your exhaust for the O2 sensor.

Cheers

I think what he is asking is if he will have more power using a carb if he uses the SPFI block with stock carb setup. The short answer is yes but probably not enough to really notice. I would probably pick the motor with the best, most even compression and the least mileage. Best way to get the extra power is to swap in the complete SPFI setup including wiring and ECU.

silverhelme thank you I'm not going for a big power upgrade just wondering what the Healther block out of the 2 would be they were both the same price just the spfi was 85 miles closer they were both Close to even compression on all 4 I went spfi just Because it was closer and yes I put the carb intake and distributor on it
