First time Subaru/VW conversion

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am new to Subarus, but think they are the best choice of motor and transmission to put into some of my 1950's and '60's Volkswagens.

I am thinking about buying a 1999 Legacy that has a EJ22 motor and a 5 speed manual transmission in it. The car is running but the owner tells me the clutch is slipping.. $300.00 for the whole car. I want to learn how to make this work in a 1963 VW Bus, and if this is the right motor for my intentions. I want to use this bus as a daily driver to haul all my welding equipment around in and it needs to be able to pull a 1500 pound trailer around at times too. I can do ANY aluminum or steel work required very easily in my shop.

I have read about Subarugears.com for the transmission conversion, and I have read that I need to get all the conversion parts off of 1 car if possible.

Other than this, I do not know much.

Please help me figure this out. Thank You.

P.S. The first picture shows the white bus that I want to fix up to be my welding vehicle. The second picture is of a car that I made out of a 1971 vw beetle that is now a two seater hard top convertible.
