Here is the story:

97 outback 155k miles auto 2.2 only mod is an eBay intake that came with the car when I got it.

5.5" lift. I started having bog issues and found a problem with the upstream o2 sensor harness. Fixed it problem was gone a week ago I was at a friends house helping him with his pathfinder I fired up my car turned on the a and got out to finish cleaning up tools. At some point the car simply shut off. I to this day have not been able to get it to restart. Here is what I've checked and maybe I'm over thinking it:

All fuses bla bla bla - good

Has a p0505 code changed icv still has code changed coil maf crank sensor and checked all other sensors. Cranks won't fire has spark fuel filter was changed two weeks prior to death. Fuel pressure after filter before engine is 38psi at start up. Car starts and runs fine on starter fluid. Checked voltage at injectors 11.8 on one pin 8.6 volts on other pin checked to ground. I was told the idle control valve will not stop the car from starting but I changed it anyway still not getting fuel. Any ideas would be great before I sell it.

I've lost faith in the obd2 system. Cam sensor tested good and when left unplugged the car had a second code for it but if I unplug the maf I still only get the icv code. The car idles and runs fine on starter fluid so I know it's not any of the sensors or spark related even though I have tested each one by its self just to be sure.. My only corse of action at this point is to hook the feed line after the filter and see if I still get 38psi of fuel pressure and a good flow after the initial pump start up. Then go from there .. I also left the battery unplugged over night in an attempt to clear the code because all attempts to clear it have failed and I'm only making an educated guess but the idle control valve should only give me bad idle problems not actually stop the computer from injecting fuel.. I don't want to sell it but I have to have a running car so.. The battle continues...

Edit: His is an IMPREZA Outback. see below

FWIW, there's another member on here fighting the same code. Coincidentally his also has the 2.2 swapped in (assume you know yours came stock w/the 2.5).

His car starts and runs, so No the p0505  won't stop it from starting...from what I've read.

I'd do some googling on the fuel pump relay....not an area of my expertise.

And in the take or leave category: I'd also get rid of the ebay intake...Subarus come w/a CAI stock, and those aftermarkets can foul your MAF.

97 Impreza outback sports only came with 1.8's or 2.2 models. Mine is a factory 2.2 I've read people swapping to the 2.2 from the 2.5 in a legacy or forester not exactly sure why..2.5 should be more bottom end torque but who knows.. After hours of chasing the fuel I've found that my injectors get fuel and 12v but are not getting the - signal from the ecu to actually fire fuel into the cyl. Checked for shorts and or lose connectors but I've got nothing. The day it shut off in the driveway I pulled a plug to check for spark and out of my own peace of mind ( I didn't change them when I got the car like I normally do) it was amazing the car ran as good as it did the gap via being wore out was like 100 thousand lol I'm wondering if the ecu kept upping the votage trying to compensate and killed itself.. Guess I'll try a computer and see what happens..
