It's an EJ25 ECU from a 1997 Legacy LSi EJ25. The little plastic turning handle to release the connector is short from the end being broken off but still turns and works, it's just the connector engagement mechanism. 86BRATMAN Posted October 10, 2016 Share Posted October 10, 2016 The 99 gt/ob ecu may run the engine, but it will not be happy about it. It will be looking for multiple inputs from the tcu that the earlier ecus do not have. It will also be looking for the fuel temperature sensor and rear evaporative emissions equipment that the 97 and previous do not have. wtdash Posted October 11, 2016 Share Posted October 11, 2016 (edited) /Possible tangent, but throwing it out there: I have '96 Legacy 2.2 L SEDAN that has the Charcoal Canister (CC) in the REAR, underneath on the passenger side; not under the hood in the front passenger side. A '96 Outback 2.5 ECU would NOT work as the CC is in the front and caused a purge valve CEL; a '99 EJ25D ECU didn't work and caused multiple CEL's - as noted above it's looking for '99 TCU/TCM, too. I ended up using a '98 EJ25D GT/OB ECU as it has the CC in the rear and matches my '96 config. (Running an EJ25D ECU for more fuel (i hope) for my turbo.) This may be unique to the '96 EJ22 Sedan version, but may want to make sure yours matches if you choose to go to a different year. /End Tangent Edited October 11, 2016 by wtdash Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
86BRATMAN Posted October 11, 2016 Share Posted October 11, 2016 96 ej22 cars can have either type evap system, it depends on the build date of the car.
