If you read my post about the mystery thumping noise, then you know I have teeth missing from the ring gear. I'm having a hell of a time locating the ring and pinion set (other than like $450 from dealer). Id rather not have to buy a whole trans because the trans I have shifts perfectly. Does anyone have a good 4eat (3.7 ratio), a front diff, or just ring and pinion set for sale? Or do you know where I can get one? It's for a 92 FWD wagon non-turbo. golucky66 Posted December 14, 2016 Share Posted December 14, 2016 I have the ring gear and it's assembly (spider gears) from a 2006 Legacy 5MT. I know it's a MUCH newer car... Swapping front diffs is a beast of a job due to backlash settings (requiring dial guages) and setting bearing preload. Gloyale is the only member here I know of that's done it or talked about it and he does this everyday and is well versed in Subarus and transmission guts. If you're going to do it best to swap the entire front behousing and retain all the same clearances precisely. Then you can swap without doing any backlash or preload adjustments.
