Apparently one of my power steering lines on my 93 Impreza has been rubbing against the inside engine wall for some time now. I found the leak however it is on one of the steel lines and I'm having trouble figuring out what it is called in order to buy the correct item. (I hate going to a parts store to discover the name only to purchase elsewhere)

If anyone has the Chilton manual the line is #4 of figure 147 on page 8-34. It is labeled as "Pipe D"

For everyone else, it's one of the long pipes under the car that connect to the steering fixture that is attached to the rack and pinion. Not the power steering pressure hose, that is the one that connects to the pump. The one I need is after the power steering pressure hose.

Thanks in advance!

i would get a used one off a used rack.   someone on here probably has some parts cars or racks lying around.

www.car-part.com otherwise for the cheapest rack in the country or find a "core" rack that they'll part out for you.

actually I can't even picture how it would/could rub against anything - something has to be wrong for it to be rubbing, so that needs repaired first before you repair it and have it happen again.

When my buddy replaced the rack and pinion I don't think he connected all the parts back correctly. The line was 'resting' on a section of the inside body. From normal road vibrations, the line wore down enough to produce a hole/leak. I've already secured the line away from possible future problems. I'll look into replacing it because replacing just the damaged section will require the entire line to be removed anyway. Thanks for the help! I'm proud of my Suby and I'm known for it around town :)
