what cars will be a direct swap for 99 2.5 engine

Recommended Posts

Probably anything with that 2.5. Basically you just use the block and transfer everything over. My only concern would be things not bolting on the engine, brackets and what not that the 99 may not have had that the new does but you can always make brackets and things. So it shouldn't be that be of a deal. Like I said, 2.5 to 2.5 to be pretty easy.

So I have this wrecked car, and want to put the engine in another car. What options do I have for a direct fit? Some places say all the way to 2006?

Thanks

it depends which 99 you're talking about. foresters and imprezas have a Phase II engine in 99 and outbacks/legacy's have a Phase I. totally different answers. nothing above 99 will work in an outback/legacy, but may in forester/impreza.

99 legacy/outback: any 1996-1998 EJ25 and 99 outback/legacy EJ25. 1995-1998 EJ22's can also work - i have a full thread dedicated to that swap, search for it.

99 forester/impreza: any 1999-2001 EJ22. 1999 forester/impreza. any 2000-2004 EJ25. past 2004 i'm uncertain but it depends on which models i think as they started rolling out extra O2 sensors on some models and variable valves, etc.

Thanks, it is a legacy outback wagon. So it sounds like I am limited to 96-99 with the 2.5.  I will start looking and see what I can find

Any 1995-1998 Impreza or Forester as well.  Which includes all 2.2's and 1998 2.5 Impreza's and Foresters.

Note the 98/99 confusion - 1999 Outback/Legacy are okay, but not Forester/Impreza - only 1998 for those.
