Grinding the glass flutes has been done, but it would be nice not to ruin original parts that are slowly disappearing every day. In the video they are going for original appearance with flutes. Not sure how you would delete the flutes, unless you used some kind of self leveling material on the inside to form a flat surface when casting. You could do a lot stuff with this material.
