Normal tire on temporary spare?

Recommended Posts

My lifted brat is running 205/70-15 tires and the factory spare is way too small to use if I get a flat. Though, it occurs to me that the little OEM donut spare from under the hood is on a temporary rated 15 inch rim.

Has anyone tried to mount a normal tire on one of these? I just want to be able to have a full diameter spare, not something to run long-term.

I'm afraid that the sidewalls will bubble out too far. Thanks for any input!

You can mount one but there won't be enuff side wall support so the tire will most likely fold over posablely popping a bead a vw bug tire might work though just not a tire that size there are charts out there that give the max and min rim width for a given tire size

If you let a lot of air out of the tire and then carry a tire pump, you can put a full size 185/70/13 tire under the hood.

I've had no problem fitting a 185/70/13 fully inflated under the hood.

Unfortunately, this does not solve my problem. I think you read my original post a little too quickly!

If you look closely when you shut the hood, there is an offset at the side joints where the hood sits higher than the quarter panel joint edge, when you use a fully inflated full size 185/70 tire.
