Checkerboard Comet Posted June 21, 2017 Share Posted June 21, 2017 Can you guys tell what version motor this is? It's a 1987 GL wagon, 4WD model. I'm considering buying it, but don't know if I want to strip it or rebuild it. The seller says it's missing a wire harness and vacuum lines. idosubaru Posted June 21, 2017 Share Posted June 21, 2017 SPFI EA82 with dealer installed A/C looks like it doesn't have an engine wiring harness -there's no MAF on the end of the intake, the TPS, if that's what it is on the right side of the throttle body, has no wiring from it and i don't see any other wiring either - down to oil pressure sensor (if equipped), or anything else. it could be carb, i'm less familiar with those and their variations but with the zipties in the top left, red custom wiring on the right and top right, cheap generic radiator hoses, no radiator cap, missing plug on what appears to be the TPS maybe it's an SPFI installed into an originally carb equipped vehicle. it could be a lego job - SPFI intake installed onto a carb long block? are you positive it's a 1987 vehicle (and not just a 1987 engine?) DaveT Posted June 21, 2017 Share Posted June 21, 2017 Kind of looks like someone started swapping a SPFI into a carb car. A few things look similar to my 86 carbed wagon. The fuel filter is not where it should be for SPFI. Look under the steering column, the ECU for the SPFI should be there, along with a LOT of wires on 3 yellowish plugs. To really see it, you have to remove the plastic kick panel that has the A/C knee level vent. I have swapped a SPFI intake onto a carbed block, so that can be done. Converting the whole car from carb to SPFI is a lot bigger deal. I'd want the entire front harness and engine harness from a SPFI. Possibly the dash harness also. Checkerboard Comet Posted June 21, 2017 Author Share Posted June 21, 2017 I'm not much of a mechanic, but I'm going to be stripping parts out of a 1993 Loyale Wagon 4WD next week. It's a manual transmission, where the 1987 is a automatic. If the 1993 one is a carb car, is it possible I could take those parts to put in the 1987? Just tossing out ideas.... The car is intact (except the engine stuff), so interiors and body components are what I'm after anyway. It has the 4 center wheel caps (hard to find those anymore), the white steel rims, the cargo cover, roof racks, etc. So the $150 is worth it alone for the accessories to me.................and I always take the bumpers, fenders, headlights, lens, etc. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
