BEWARE of Gary's Inc. / Subaru Service.

Recommended Posts

I tried for over a week and a half to get some parts from gary's Inc. / Subaru service, 3940 W 13th Ave. Eugene, OR 97402

I spoke with someone there who told me I would get a call back... and again, and again.. and again,

This "Gary" could not take a lousy 5 Minutes to call a cutomer and tell him what he had or did not have, what he could do or not do, not even a quick call to say if he was to busy to do whatever!

What a jerk!
That is no way to run any business, not a very smart way to make money, and beyond unprofessional, is just plain lazy, disimissive and rude!
Any business can take a few seconds to at least touch base with a customer wanting to spend money sometime withing WEEKS.
No excuse for this kind of garbage!

If you need parts, look somewhere else where they can actually handle at least giving a call back!

Sorry you had a bad experience.

What were you asking about?

Is this a parts yard or a shop?

Why didn't they tell you when you called?

Why didn't you call somewhere else when they couldn't answer?

If a place doesn't answer on the phone then I'd just call the next place that may have what I need rather than wait weeks and leave messages, or at least call other places as an "option B".

Most parts are available to order any business day:

www.car-parts.com

Presumably shipping is an option if you were willing to wait a week and were too far away to stop and ask them in person.

I totally get that view and understanding are incomplete but so is this entire situation for those reading this.

Running a business can be really difficult. It's tough to not forget things. But after that many calls you should have got an answer I would think.

Feel free to let me know what you need. I have lots of expertise in the old gens. One of my guys has two GL's and an XT6 and another has a lifted EJ swapped hatch. Not to mention I daily drove them for about a decade personally. There isn't much we don't know.... If anything at all!

Gary is a great guy.  1 Guy.  He has no employees.  No secretaries, or counter manager or parts department.  Just a great guy fixing old subes for 20+ years.

An excellent, experienced mechanic.

He makes his money doing work on cars, not as a wrecking yard selling parts.  Espescially not ones he has to ship.

I doubt the money you were gonna spend with him would come close to any kind of profit for him once he goes through the trouble of shipping it to CA for ya.  Plus it would deplete his inventory of parts he could use for local, good paying jobs for customers that respect him.

The "SoCal" attitude won't get you very far in the laid back PNW.  Change it, and you might find someone here on the board to help with what you need.  Try the "wanted" forum here.

That's pretty much the size of it. I get all kinds of technical support phone calls, and people looking for parts but have no money. My phone rings an average of once every 15 minutes I would say. At times it's every 5.

Makes it really hard to get anything done. I don't have a receptionist. Honestly I'm probably going to setup someone just for phone, cleaning, paperwork, etc here soon. Screen my calls, etc. I have neither to time nor inclination to deal with people that can't spend the money on their hobby so they want it for basically free. I had to warehouse this junk for 20 years and now you want it for basically nothing after taking up an hour of my time talking about it and finding it in my huge pile of parts? Don't think so.... If your calling me it's because you can't find one in the normal channels. It's going to have to be worth my time.

If you still have this thing look in to ea82 parts i here alot fit with a little modification

Actually very, very little from an EA82 car will fit an EA81 without modification.  EA82 intake will fit the EA81.  EA82 wheels fit the EA81.  Same brake light bulbs.

Still not much even with small modification.  If you swap the entire front crossmember, control arms, axles, knuckles and radius rods, you can use it all toghether with the EA81 radius mounts.  widens the front track considerably.

With enough modification anything can work.... but my feeling is this guy is trying to stay original.  Whatever the reasons I don't understand.
