Cooling issue 98 Legacy Outback

Recommended Posts

I have over 316K miles on my baby. Just redid the head gasket for the second time. Replaced the radiator, thermostat and flushed and purged the system. U can drive about 7 to 9 miles and then she gets warm, the temp gauge will climb up to the top of the the little thermostat on the gauge. I can rev up the motor to about 2200 rpms and it will come down to normal. It started climbing today and almost went all the way to the top while I was driving then finally cooled back down. I am very confused and frustrated. I love my baby and need her to be around for another couple of years. Any suggestions or fixes please?

HI,

What T-stat? OEM or Xact are usually the only ones to use.

Heater Core? You can bypass it to test.

Could still need burped. Either use the radiator bleed valve or WHEN COLD fill the radiator and fill the upper tube from the radiator side 'til both are full.
