Shop Cost to Resurface Flywheel?

Recommended Posts

A flywheel on an '86 GL 5-spd. With 4WD, if that matters.

I'm wondering if the price I was quoted from a highly-regarded trans shop is typical. The quote includes draining & replacing the trans oil.

Does anyone have experience with a shop doing this work and a fair price range?

I don't want to give the quoted price here, just wanting to get some prices in order to compare.

I am in SW Washington state.

Tpically this type of job is done when replacing a clutch.

No ussual to pull the trans to just resurface a flywheel.

I ussually charge about $300 in labor for R+R of trans.  Plus $50 for flywheels surface.  $20 fluids and rags.  Plus the cost of the clutch set, ussually $100~$175 depending on type and source.

So if you are getting this done for around $500 total, that's what I would expect.....more than that is getting into gougin territory.

I'm not understanding this part: "No ussual to pull the trans to just resurface a flywheel."

Do you mean it is usual, or is not usual?

It is not usual.

Who is telling you to resurface your flywheel?  What problem are you having?

There really is not ever a reason to resurface a flywheel unless it is related to a failed clutch.
