44 Idf in 82 Brat?

Recommended Posts

A 32/36 DGV series Weber would be a better choice because of the progressive throttle linkage, readily avaiable adapters,

and comparitively small venturis.

That said,if you already have one,I think you could make it work OK.

Big advantage of the IDF are the changable venturis.Much more tunable.

Factory EA81 rally cars ran twin IDFs (pretty sure) mounted directly on the heads.

There is a photo around here somewhere

Good luck

Thanks! I have not purchased anything yet. I have an 82 Brat and want to start working on it. It runs really good, fires up on the 1st ignition twist EVERY time. But that's boring!! So, I'd like to add a cam, carb & exhaust before I tackle the suspension. Get rid of the smog stuff in the process too. Just dreaming/planning before I do purchase. Im aware of the DVG/Weber kits, but I also see a DVG to DCOE adapter that looks like a whole lotta fun. A single 40 or 44 side draft in place of the stock would be pretty cool!

While I can appreciate your enthusiasm to upgrade - hop up - hot rod your Brat, know that no vehicles 76 & newer can be altered in any way & still pass the new smog requirements. California really, really sucks when it comes to building up an engine horsepower wise. My 87 TBI Subaru GL wagon passed with no problem but only because it is still running an under powered EA82 in near stock form. They almost didn't allow the 2nd cat conv because they said it wasn't on the accepted list - a list that had been changed 3 yrs ago after I had already replaced that cat conv! And had passed smog with it 2 yrs ago!

Ridiculous smog laws. Stupid Schwarzenegger signed a freeze to the rolling 25 yr exemptions while he was in office. Now Brown is stirring the emissions pot for more changes.

Yet another reason I'm moving out of Commiefornia.

End of rant.

Yeah, I’m with you on all the smog headaches. This will be strictly off-road. She barely passed smog once upon a time and only with help from a little “tuning”.

Basic plan of attack right now is:

1. Engine (Carb, Cam, Exhaust)

2. Cage

3. Suspension (Wide, Nitro Shocks, VW 5 lug)

4. Body/Paint

I’m sure it’ll be that easy too!!!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday
