4wd low indicator light staying on

Recommended Posts

So I have an 88 GL 4wd 5spd and the "LOW" light on my dash won't go off. It flickers a bit which leads me to believe that there might be a bad ground or switch. I know it's not in 4 Low when the light is on, and it does indeed go into 4 low when I want to it, so everything seems to be working right except the light.

I have found a wiring diagram and it seems that light is turned on by a switch that is supposed to be "On Transaxle Case" but as I'm fairly newish to these and not too familiar with transmissions to begin with I can't seem to identify it.

Can someone maybe shoot a picture of what this switch is supposed to look like so I can track it down and find out what's going on?

Also, if anyone has any suggestions as to what this might be besides a bad switch / connections I would greatly appreciate hearing them.

Thanks!

This issue could be two things:

1/ a stuck switch

2/ broken wires shorting out on eachother

The switch you're looking for is at the back of the gearbox up high on the RHS from memory.

Stolen from another thread on here:

Looking at that pic you can see all the switches at the back of the gearbox.  There's the 4wd light, lo 4wd light and the reverse light.  Thinking about it the switch could be on the LHS - it's been a while since I've played with one of these boxes properly.

'88 will be a series two, at least in Oz this model was fitted to the gearbox ;)

I thin here it will depend on build date plenty of EA82 5spds here without the lo switch.  no neutral switch even up to 87.
