Hoping some of you learned fellas on here can prevent me booking an appointment with a shrink...! My Leg - unusually is playing up - all on its own, the alarm/immobiliser is trying to keep the car confined to workshop...?!

I’m in U.K and due to take the car to Belgium and Holland next week - tonight was the last bit of prep work, but nothing more elaborate than changing front and rear differential oil. The car unlocked as normal on the fob button, I left the key in the ignition whilst I did the diff oil changes.

An hour later I turned the ignition on - the lights came on as normal but the alarm went off. Tried to stop it using the key button - no joy. It sounded for a minute or so then stopped - tried the key button again, key in ignition - alarm sounds. Pressing the key button, the indicators flash but the door locks do not respond - the little red light on top of the steering column continuously flashes and so does the red key symbol on the dash - no matter how many times I press the key button.

A few times whilst trying to reset the alarm, the car made 5 or 6 measured beep sounds - which I took to be it re-setting itself - made no difference. After several more attempts - with frustration mounting to dangerous levels - I disconnected the battery and shut the workshop door on it.

Please can anyone offer advice/Intel/suggestions about how to deal with this irritating snag? Im finding it hugely frustrating that the alarm system has spooked itself all on its own - just like that!...????????

Any help gratefully received.

With thanks and best regards

Update - calm restored - turned out to be the car’s battery spontaneously going duff. It took me a while to realise - I was off on a tangent thinking it was something much more involved!

Despite the frustration and angst - it’s much more preferable that the car did this now, rather than when the ferry arrived in France on Thursday. Philosophy - an under-rated pastime!

With best regards
