Re-sealing a 1995 2.2 for use in my 92.

On the backside of the block there is the infamous oil separator on the right and a small cover on the left , which is the one in question.

It has two Phillips head screws retaining it and they are socked down pretty well. If need be I’ll get a good impact and have those screws out. But maybe it’s not worth it ? Seems plenty dry there.

I am of course upgrading the cheesy plastic oil separator plate and replacing the rear main and rear cam seals.

Thanks for any opinions.

I've only read about this stuff, so, not speaking from experience.

The round access cover seems very stable, From reading across a coupla forums for years and looking at pics of leaking plastic a/o separators and seeping rear mains, I THINK I have only once read of someone with a leak from that cover (wrist pin access?)

I probably wouldn't disturb it if dry.

Thanks , and yes I’m pretty sure it’s got to be wrist pin access.

I also don’t recall my parts guy selling me any seal or even speaking about it.

there's an O-ring in theat plate.

I take it out and replaec with a bead of "the Right Stuff"

only needed if weeping.
