So, i was bored at work today and decided to see what the biggest tire size is that will fit on my 96 legacy. Stock is 196/60R15 (LS model) and the biggest i could get to, without a lift or rubbing on anything, is 215/70R15!!! Quite a difference, and boy did it look odd. I'm wondering how it would drive with that big of tires on...:-\

Hey not bad! Thats going from 24.2" tall to 26.9". A noticible difference for sure in stance and clearance. If you went any taller what was it rubbing on; strut seats? How much offset would be needed to step away from the strut and go taller?

The frame when turning i believe... i had a little more room before it hit the struts

so up front when you turned it was hitting the unibody? Was it just part of the fender? Wheel well ? How far could you turn; as in was it just limiting the overal turning radias or severly inhibiting steering? Was it rubbing where you could just cut/beat stuff out of the way (if one was brave enough :) )

the unibody, it would hit only when turning the wheel to the farthest limit, so i guessi it would be possible to go up to a 215/75, but i wouldn't want to.

A car's suspension is, I believe, a very delicate and precise system in equilibrium. I would'nt mess with any part of it without expert knowledge of what else would need to be changed to keep everything in balance.

Just my non expert opinion.

Changing the height would mess with your speedo too, would go further per revolution, but I would love to get em bigger. I wonder if it would completely screw things up putting larger tires in the rear and smaller in front on awd systems, it sure would make the wagons look mean though.

i'm not woried about the speedo, but i bet putting 2 different sizes on would screw things up royally
