Read my AT Shift Control thread. But FYI: There is a computer that controls the tranny. It's to the left of the steering column, right above your left knee. It's mount vertical with either an HS, EF or EE (big letter) on the cover. You can't miss it. Its size is roughly 5x6in. May I ask what is wrong with it? rgh1835
First, thanks for your reply, just the info i needed. as in my orig post i had bought this car 100,000 mi[it is wrecked in the rear, but runs good and eng and trans are tight & dry] with ideas of mounting the drive train mid ships in a`90 vw beetle project. As i read of the computer problems in adapting the eng and now the trans i am rethinking the whole deal. Besides the wrecked `90 2wd auto sedan i also have a `90 awd 5spd sedan, and a `90 2wd auto wagon. All legacys, all 2.2 engs. The awd sedan has the best body, but over 300,000 mi. the wagon was wrecked in the past and had shoddy repair done. the trans in it does something weird- it work ok for @ 5mins then disengages. turn it off for a few mins, start it up , and it drops into gear works ok for @ 5 mins then disengages. Ideas on that one would be appreciated. So now i have to figure out which way to put these parts together. thought about putting the complete sub frame from the wreck under the sedan, but even though i have all the needed parts, the amount of work to do it is sizeable to wind up with what i would have. BTW i am an older guy that prefers automatics and doesnt need awd. My daily driver is a `90 2wd 5spd loyale, so you can see im pretty far oft into subs after a 30yr affair w/air cooled vws. you did ask =jcniest5]You got the right person today! Legacy777
You may want to try checking the codes for the tranny.....see if anything is throwing an electrical code http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/trans.html
