applegump
I have unfortunately discovered an oil leak. There is a small puddle of oil on top of the passenger side rocker arm valve cover in the front most "valley". There are also drops coming from the passenger side of the black cover both ontop and below. I'm wondering what the cause could be? seals? which? How easy to fix. Expensive? Thanks for the help. powderhound
Common oil leaks are from the front cam seals, crank seal, oil pump o-ring, and valve cover gaskets. I had all my front seals, oil pump, water pump, t-belt, t-stat replaced for around $900.
MorganM
It's officially a subaru now How much oil are you consuming from this leak? Keep it topped off !_! I check mine every time I fill up the gas.
elkaboom
Sounds like valve cover gaskets. It's a cheap fix and, fortunately, very easy to do. Parts are roughly 20-30 bucks? I replaced mine about a year ago, but I can't remember exactely how much the gasket set was. In any event, it's inexpensive and it should only take an hour or two depending on how familiar you are with your car.
applegump
I'm gonna take another look to be sure where the oil is coming from. I'll probably remove the timing belt cover in the process. The valve cover gasket doesn't seem too difficult to change. However if it turns out that the front cam seals, crank seal, and/or the oil pump o-ring is leaking, how difficult is it to fix that? Any special tools? Thanks
