Help!: Getting bottom 2 nuts on the strut off

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am doing a strut swap in the rear end of a 1990 legacy ls.

I am having a problem getting the bottom two nuts off the strut.

I got the top bottom nut off no problem but the lower bottom nut I can't seem to get a good hold of because the CV boot is in the way to allow any socket access.

How did you guys get that nut off...please let me know...

thanks in advance...great board.

Not much room up in there :( Have you tried sneaking in the box end of a wrench? Then you can slip over a piece of pipe for a cheater bar and get some seriouse leverage to bust it loose. Make sure its on straight with that kind of leverage. Quick way to round off a nut if it's not on square!

They also make jointed/swivl adapters to go between your socket and driver. This will give you more wiggle action :)

Yup I tried the box end but the fit is not tight enough and I am afraid of eroding the nut if I continue.

I will try to find a skinnier closed wrench that will fit between the strut and the cv boot to allow access...I figure the space is about 2 millimeters..

Any other advice?please.gif
