There are two o2 sensors on your car; the first one is in the front catalytic converter just below the right side inner C/V joint. The second one is on the rear catalytic converter and is just behind the transmission cross member

I got a quote here in Montreal, Canada from a Subaru dealer that the part is $270.00 plus 1 Hr labor at $79.00 CAN for the repair. I was wondering if changing the part by myself would save money and how much work is required.

You may run into a problem getting the front 02 sensor out if it is seized /rusted(which can happen especially in your neck of the woods) and you will need a special socket to get it out as well. Although if you have patience of a saint you could try and get it out with a 22mm wrench (it will be tight)

The part you have to buy, the labour is all you’re going to save on

It's your call!

I tried it with one of those adapter dealies. Couldn't really make it happen. (Maybe because I didn't have the vehicle raised. Tried to do it flat on the ground). I went to the 22mm open-end wrench from above the engine compartment route. After a little PB Blaster for a few minutes, it came right out.

Trouble is that it should be done when the engine is relatively warm, so the sensor can come out without damaging the opening. This made for a few ouches reaching down to make the last few turns of the sensor and especially when putting the new one in.
