83wasagoodyear
HI. I'm considering buying a 2001 Forester with 76k miles. I've searched this forum and see that head gaskets have been a problem for earlier models. Is this true for 2001 too? What would I look for as serious problems while checking it out? Thanks for any advice! ps I am an original owner of an '83 GL 1.8L and never had head gasket problems.
Commuter
Most likely spot is the driver's side, back of the engine for the external head gasket leak. Look there. Commuter
timintc
i had similar probs with my 2000 legacy and after bringing the matter up with the zone office they extended the warranty and i got mine fixed for free, afterwards i got a memo stating that an additive needed to be added to the cooling system but that anyone who had the head gaskets replaced in i think 99 00 and 01 model subarus would be reimbursed
