Just purchased a 98' forester 2.5 with manual transmission. I like my vehicles clean so degreased and hosed underneath the car then went for a drive to dry it off. About 5 miles into it the cel came on and immediatley started to run rough. I had a scanner with me and p1507 was the code "manf. cntrl vehicle speed ,idle speed control auxiliary inputs". I cleared the code and the car ran fine for the rest of the day. The cel has come on a few more times since with the same code at about the same driving distance, only after sitting all night. I am about to replace both vehicle speed sensors. Does this sound like the solution? I could use some advice.

Since this problem seemed to happen after you cleaned it I would check for a bad connection problem first before replacing anything. Try cleaning the connections too these sensors and see if that helps. It also would be good to test out the sensor outputs first before replacing them. Some sensors are pretty expensive.

Thanks for the reply. That is what I am about to do, the logical thing but does this code indicate a fault with the vss sensor or could it be something else like the idle air conrol unit ?

Your welcome for the help.

I don't know enough about how these sensors are tied into the system to help you on that. Sorry. You may want to invest in a service manual for reference on things like this. This would be a good investment I think.
