Hello everyone. This is my first post to the forum as I'm a new owner of a '98 outback. I'm having a few issues with my car. Any corrective measures would be appreciated.

1. When driving down a hill and letting off the accelerator, as I approach moving traffic, the car will buck and finally settle down. When I step on the gas again, the same bucking occurs again. Is it the clutch or accelerator/throttle body?

2. I live in the middle east and this model is equipped with a 'friendly' reminder that beeps at you constantly when driving over 120km/hr. Does anyone know how to disable the speaker or where it's located? If you've driven in the area, you know 120 barely keeps up with traffic.

3. I cannot activate my cruise control and suspect it's the switch. After taking the switch out yesterday and bridging the harness, I hear a click in the dash, but do not see any 'cruise' light on the dash. Does this light exist? I'm going to put in a new switch, but wonder if it is something else.

Thanks for any advice...

Bucking. How bad? The engine mounts are fairly soft, and the slack that follows AWD will exacerbate this. It should be worst when letting off the gas between 2000 and 2500rpm. Learn to step off smoothly, or replace the mounts with STi items. This problem is annoying me too!

No idea on the speed chime. Taxi's in Singapore have those....ding-ding...ding-ding once you are above 80km/h!

Not able to help on the cruise either. Pretty poor show, really!

The bucking is a typical Subaru thing. I've learned how to drive without doing it, you just have to let off really slowly.

We USA'ens had the 55-mph speed chime on the XT Turbo's and XT6's. But we had a little switch with its own key with which we could turn it off. I don't know if you can do anything except pull the wire to the chime.

The cruise could be something really simple, if you can confirm for me that the car is a manual transmission. There is a little rubber piece on the top of the clutch pedal that presses a button when the clutch is engaged. This button tells the cruise control computer that the clutch is engaged and to set the speed. If that piece has fallen out (it's happened to me before) then the computer will think the clutch is disengaged and not activate the cruise control. That's the first thing you should check out. If that doesn't help, then it's something electrical and I'm no electrician :-\

Good luck!
