Are the side and rear badges stuck on with that foam tape that dealers use for their nameplates? I've peeled these off of every vehicle I ever owned without incident, but wasn't sure if the Outback labels were the same type.

Has anyone out there "de-badged" their Outback? I'd like to see some pics.

I'm pretty sure they are. BUT check with someone who really knows. If the are, this is how to remove them.

Go to a music store and get a high E guitar string. Wrap the string around a couple of dowels and tie it so you can use it like a wire saw. Start at one side and saw the badge off, pulling away from the car so you don't scrratch the paint. Use your wife's hair dryer on high to soften the glue, wipe up with carb cleaner and then wax.

Voila! Badge free.

I have a 96 outback.

The 'outback' and 'awd' badge are only fitted with the sticky foam stuff and have a flat backside.

The 'Legacy' badge has in adition to the foam, 2 plastic pins on the back to align it correctly. All are made off plastic so be carefull when you remove them.

The logo in the front grille is hold on by a spring clip.

I also peeled off the extra pinstripe on the sides, and the AWD decals in the rear side windows.

I haven't gotten around to cutting away the cladding that goes over the wheel wells, apparently designed by some stylist to make someone, somewhere think that the OB was an off-road vehicle.

I don't mind the one on the front grille, but all the others seem like overkill. I don't have the "Legacy" badges- they quit putting those on at some point.

I was thinking about getting the rear windows (back doors and cargo area) tinted at some point, so I'll probably end up removing the stickers as well.

Anybody got pics?
